A black house shaped box(video)
In September, I made a black house shaped box from gaffa tapes and cardboards. I wanted to serve tea for people as a tea house.
And I decided to use a stone as a welcoming motif. But it was difficult to find the stone. So until I found the stone, I was playing with the box with gloves. I bought white gloves but they looked like a magician so I changed to pick black. The black gloves made the black box more mysterious and a bit creepy.
After I got the stone, I experiment to take movies with the black box. At that time, I realized that the box is not for tea party anymore so I used the box for expressing interaction with stones, potatoes and the box itself. The interactions with those materials reminded me of the image from a film “2001:A Space Odyssey”. The color of box was black and when I put a light on it, it was a bit shined. The video has six sections,
1. The black box is born. Something is existing inside. 

2. Holding potatoes as Yin and Yang. Feeling the gravity and your will. 

3. Existence of a body. Touching a body. 

4. Existence of objects. 

5. Egos, struggles and fights appear. 

6. Sometimes you need to accept something you don’t need
After I made a simple video of the sections, I tried to make one more video for mixing each sections. And I found the sounds of pulling a stone and dropping potatoes are interesting. So the second video was more focusing on a meditation with potatoes. Filming in a dark with a small light made white dusts appearing in the video and they looked like souls wondering around the box.

The initial idea for making the box was for making a tea ceremony but the box turned to be a creepy one. This could be for frightening and dictating people by using hands. If I put the box on a table and using hand gestures to command people as a performance, this could be interesting too. I have no desire to control people but the box wants to try commanding people. This sounds like my body is separated from my mind.
I didn’t try the idea of dictating people yet, because I’m more interested in “A tea party box” now. “Dictating people” sounds too strong but I want to make the expression more funnier so probably if I do the next step for the artwork, I would need to consider about the atmosphere for that using sounds? gestures? words? voices?
